Pedro Sodré is a Brazilian filmmaker who lives between Rio de Janeiro and Paris. He has two feature films to his credit: his debut, "Rio Mumbai", and more recently, "Rama Pankararu".
"Rama Pankararu" is a true story blending fiction and documentary, achieving a remarkable balance between the two genres.
The cast features only one professional actress, and the result is fantastic! The story of Paula, a young journalist from Rio (the film's only actress), investigating the (real) arson of a school in Indigenous territory on the evening of the second round of the 2018 presidential elections that brought Jair Bolsonaro to power. This territory, known as Pankararu, is home to over 6,000 Indigenous people. Paula falls in love (the only fictionalized part of the film) with an Indigenous woman, Bia, who helps her gain the trust of the community...
With stunning imagery of processions and a road-movie-style investigation, this auteur film's direction and cinematography delicately and elegantly highlight the crucial role of Indigenous culture in Brazil.
Executive producer in Brazil with his production company based in Rio (Copa Filmes), after directing his first two feature films, Pedro resumed his film studies at the Sorbonne in Paris (Master’s in Screenwriting). Over the past two years, he has directed several short films in France.
Currently, Pedro is developing a musical documentary project as a director "Sabia School", with filming in Rio planned for mid-2025, to be produced by Copa Filmes and Suburb Production.
